Bloomberg Wins Re-Election
Wednesday November 9, 2005
New York City voted to re-elect Mayor Michael Bloomberg by a margin of 20% over Fernando Ferrer. It is estimated to be the largest margin of victory ever for a Republican mayoral candidate in New York City.
In other city races, the Democrats ruled the day. Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum was easily re-elected, Scott Stringer handily won the race for Manhattan Borough President, and Democrat William Thompson won re-election as city comptroller.
New Yorkers also voted through three ballot initiatives, including a bond act that could provide billions to city transit projects including the long-discussed Second Avenue subway line.
