Back at the Bargaining Table?
Thursday December 22, 2005
According to news reports, representatives from the MTA and the TWU met early this morning for the first time since the transit strike began. This could be good news after a day of arguing and name-calling between Mayor Bloomberg and union leader Toussaint.
Yesterday, a judge ordered top union officials to appear in court today on charges of criminal contempt. The city is also attempting to get a restraining order to force workers back on the job.
In other news, the city has opened one lane to regular traffic on Madison Ave. and Fifth Ave., both of which have been reserved for emergency traffic only. The goal is to help relieve traffic congestion on the east side of Manhattan.
