Tram Trouble
Wednesday April 19, 2006
Where is Spiderman when you really need him? Sixty-nine people were stranded for up to twelve hours in two Roosevelt Island Tramway cable cars dangling over the East River last night. The NYPD came to the rescue, using a gondola, a crane, and a bucket to free the stuck passengers.Everybody emerged safe and sound. "Well, there was this one kid who peed in a cup," a 12-year-old passenger told the Associated Press. At least the views of the city were breathtaking.
The cable cars stalled due to an unexplained power failure and the Roosevelt Island Tramway will remain out of service until the exact origins of the power failure can be identified. If you have to get to Roosevelt Island, you can take the F to the Roosevelt Island stop.
