Weekend Picks

Friday June 16, 2006
  • World Cup Soccer: There's a full slate of World Cup matches this weekend, including the U.S. vs. Italy on Satuday. Check out MurphGuide's list of dozens of bars where you can watch the games with like-minded soccer fans.

  • Ultimate Urban Adventures: Head to Central Park on Saturday for a free day of outdoor fun and classes in events including rock climbing, canoeing in Bethesda Fountain, BMX, and yoga. Get sweaty from 12 to 4 pm, then relax under the stars and enjoy free live musical peformances. It's all courtesy of the NYC Parks Department and Backpacker magazine.

  • East River Music Project: The East River Music Project is a series of free indie rock concerts at the East River Amphitheatre this summer. The first show kicks off on Saturday with Meneguar, Human Television, Mobius Band, and Saturday Looks Good To Me. Doors open at 1:30 PM and the bands play from 2-4 PM. The East River Amphitheatre is in East River Park, south of the Williamsburg Bridge on the Manhattan side.

  • Broadway Bares: See hot boys and girls take it off to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS on Sunday night at Roseland Ballroom. At this event, New York's buffest Broadway dancers show you their burlesque moves for a good cause. General admission tickets are $50 and they are swiftly selling out.
