- AmsterJam 2006 on Randalls Island -- On Saturday, Randalls Island is hosting AmersterJam 2006, an all-day music festival featuring Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Foo Fighters, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, and other great acts.
- Happy Birthday, Mae West -- Check out an exhibit of rare images of buxom blond icon Mae West, a true original who paved the way for today's sex symbols. The exhibit also includes images of Mae's pal Texas Guinan, the legendary New York speakeasy hostess. On Sunday, Mae historian LindaAnn Loschiavo will lead a tour of the Village hotspots frequented by Mae and Texas. The free exhibit is at the Village Restaurant at 62 West 9th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. The tour (and accompanying gin-soaked lunch) will start at the restaurant at noon on Sunday. Admission for the tour is $25.
- Howl! Fifty Years Later -- Celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of poet Allen Ginsberg's legendary work at a day-long event featuring performances, talks, and a group "speakout." It all starts on Saturday at 1PM at the Bowery Poetry Club at 308 Bowery between Bleecker and Houston Streets.
- India Day Parade -- Sunday's India Day Parade commemorates 59 years of Indian independence. The parade will begin on Sunday at 1PM at Madison Avenue and 45th Street. More NYC street fairs and festivals this weekend.
