Google has a new home in New York. The company opened a brand new 311,000 square foot office in Manhattan today. The new office in Chelsea (8th Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets) will be Google's largest advertising sales base and its largest development center outside of its California headquarters.
Google employees in the new Chelsea office will benefit from several dot-com era workplace perks -- including free meals and a killer game room. Google execs also announced that significant mobile development work will take place in New York.
Could Google be planning to expand free wifi in NYC a la their recent initiative to provide free wifi access to all of San Francisco? Google already subsidizes free wifi access in Bryant Park. A Google spokesperson told Crain's New York Business, "You'll have to wait and see."
