Crack is Wack is Back
Thursday September 6, 2007
Keith Haring's famous Crack is Wack mural in Harlem River Park is getting a makeover courtesy of Gotham Scenic, a group of artists who specialize in set design and mural restoration. The two-sided mural overlooking FDR Drive was painted on the walls of a handball court by Haring in 1986 to draw attention to the crack epidemic and its effect on New York City. Featuring Haring’s signature figures, the mural is a lasting reminder of the renowned graffiti artist's distinctive talent. Keith Haring died of AIDS in 1990 at the age of 31.
You can see the restoration artists at work on Thursday, September 6 from 9AM to 3PM in Harlem River Park at 128th Street and 2nd Avenue.
