CBGB Reopens as Art Gallery
Monday March 24, 2008
Part of the legendary CBGB will re-open this Thursday as the Morrison Hotel Gallery (the rest of the space will soon become a John Varvatos clothing store). Gallery owners have promised to respect the history and legacy of CBGB and their first exhibit will feature the mixed media art of Steve Joester, a leading rock and roll photographer of the 70s and 80s.
To keep the legend alive, the gallery is preserving the CBGB logo in front of the club and the famous bathrooms. Some hidden walls from 1983 were recently discovered by renovators and will also be on view.
The exhibition will run from March 27th through April 17th. The gallery hours will be 12pm - 7pm Sunday through Wednesday and 12pm -9pm Thursday through Saturday. Photo by Bryan Bedder/Getty Images
