Deadly Crane Collapse on Upper East Side

A deadly crane collapse on 91st Street and 1st Avenue this morning has left at least one dead and several injured. The construction crane collapsed shortly after 8 a.m. and crashed into a high-rise apartment building before falling to the street below. A corner of the top floor of the apartment building was ripped apart and a Duane Reade pharmacy at the bottom of the building also sustained severe damage.
Hundreds of firefighters and Office of Emergency Management personnel are on the scene searching the wreckage for other victims. Air inflation devices are being used to lift the heavy debris.
Officials have shut down the areas surrounding 91st Street and 1st Avenue.
