Weekend Picks -- Comedy and Art

Friday November 7, 2008
It has been a crazy and momentous week. There was Halloween, the New York City Marathon, and a little Presidential election on Tuesday. I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted.

So this weekend, let's rest and recover and get ready for all of that change we've been promised. Go out and have a laugh or refresh your spirit with a day of art. Here are our top NYC event picks for the weekend of Friday, November 7th through Sunday, November 9th, 2008:
  • New York Comedy Festival -- Need a laugh? There is a great line-up of New York Comedy Festival shows all weekend long. On Friday, the highlight is probably the writers of The Daily Show (including Wyatt Cenac and John Oliver) at Paley Center. On Saturday night, you've got lots of funny options -- including Sarah Silverman at Hammerstein Ballroom, Tracy Morgan at the Apollo, and Joel McHale at Town Hall. Sunday is the final night of the festival and you can see Brian Regan at Avery Fisher Hall, The Office's BJ Novak and Friends at Town Hall, or John Pinette at Carolines.

  • The New Yorker's Passport to the Arts -- On Saturday, explore the Chelsea art scene with a self-guided tour of 28 hot galleries and a gala cocktail party. Tickets are $45 and part of the proceeds go to benefit Friends of the High Line.

  • Second Sunday at the Guggenheim -- Enjoy interactive, family-oriented tours of the Guggenheim on Sunday between 10:30 AM and 12 PM. Take the kids to learn about the exhibits and participate in art projects and scavenger hunts. Admission is $15 per family and FREE for Guggenheim Family Members. Advanced registration is recommended.
