For one day out of every year, the Empire State Building becomes the ultimate New York City wedding venue. Brides.com transforms a high floor of the Empire State Building into a deluxe pink wedding chapel and selects several lucky couples to join an exclusive club of Empire State Building brides and grooms.
For 2009, 14 couples were selected based on their reasons for wanting to be married at the Empire State Building. Then, on February 14th, Brides.com hosted ceremonies all day long -- including a commitment ceremony for the first-ever same-sex couple to exchange vows at the Empire State Building.
Couples were wed in a beautifully-decorated room with breathtaking views of Manhattan. They then toasted with champagne and cupcakes before venturing up to the Empire State Building observatory for a kiss at the top. Each couple also enjoyed wedding gift bags and free consultations with Brides.com wedding experts and hair and makeup pros.
I was honored to attend the February 14th wedding of Michael Le Grand and Rose La Fontant, who first said "I love you" atop the Empire State Building. As you'll see from the photos, it was a beautiful ceremony. The bride declared her wedding "absolutely magical" and the groom couldn't stop smiling. After their picturesque kiss at the top of the Empire State Building, Rose and Michael left for a reception party in Brooklyn and a honeymoon to Barbados.
Another perk of getting married at the Empire State Building? You are welcomed back each year to celebrate your anniversary with free admission to the Empire State Building Observatory. I met several happy couples returning for their own Valentine's Day kisses at the top of New York's most famous skyscraper.
