The new film City Island premiered at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday, but Snapple hosted a sneak preview cocktail party and screening on Saturday night. I was among the few to get a first look at the new comedy starring Andy Garcia and Julianna Margulies and I was not disappointed.
City Island is a fishing village located in the Bronx. If you've never heard of it, you're not alone. Most New Yorkers have never experienced the charms of City Island -- I was shocked to learn of its existence when I was first treated to an amazing City Island seafood feast by Bronx friends in the know.
The movie City Island makes life on the actual City Island look rather idyllic. You can kick back with your wine and ciggies out by the water and enjoy views of the sea and your exhibitionist neighbors.
But for the characters in the film, seaside life gets complicated by a midlife crisis, a secret love affair from the past, a hot shirtless ex-con handyman, a Bronx strip club, a bad Brando impression, and a 300-pound temptress.

Yes… I have to agree that the movie “City Island” does for me bring back those memories. Presently as an actor-performer myself, when I lived and had a business on The Real City Island back in the 70’s, I had my experiences. Bravo “Cousin Andy”… you played it right!
I have known of actor Andy Garcia’s credits, however on 3/20/11, I was fortunate to watch the movie City Island. My 1st comment, if you are a serious minded inspiring actor, then I would Hope you would look at this move 1st to add to your own acting desires. This is acting! 2nd in reality the Entire families dysfunctional behavior, attitudes and Negative remarks towards one another; even though it’s acting, this is how some families treat and act towards one another. And it doesn’t have to be that way as ‘U’ will hopefully learn from the movie. Families are very important for the parents and children. Sure ‘U’ will laugh; laugh ‘in is healthy and a main necessary in our life! But ‘U-2′ can Learn from this family’s life-style and their dispositions towards each other. The mind is like parachute it works better (in a calm atmosphere) when it’s open. The movie’s story brings the family together, by learning of each others situations and how to improve then in love and unity. Andy wanted to be a Movie ‘Actor Like Richard Greere in his movie He wanted to be able to dance so he took lessons and His wife jumped the gun and thought he was having an affair like Garcia.
I read an article 3/21/11 on renown actor: David Duvall who states his parents similar to actor: Anthony Hopkins thought (both of them) were wasting time therefore the parents suggested that they keep buzzy and for a time by Studying acting. Acting is a fascinating way to develop self-esteem and overcome self-imposed or instilled negative attitudes by others or peers. Quote: It’s a temporary way to be someone else while learning about whom you are Michael Landon (Little Joe). PS: I lived in Brooklyn most of my life and Never knew of the Bronx’s City Island, If I had I surely would have visited that scenic place.
