Swine Flu in New York City

By , About.com GuideApril 28, 2009

Swine flu panic has swept New York City ever since 28 students in Queens were diagnosed with mild cases of the virus.

The Queens students had recently returned from a trip to Mexico, where there have been 80 swine flu fatalities. So far, the New York City swine flu cases appear to be mild and all of the students are recovering, according to a statement by Mayor Bloomberg.

However, news of a potentially fatal and easily spread disease in the five boroughs has made many New Yorkers very nervous. The NYC Office of Emergency Management has released some tips to help New Yorkers prevent the spread of swine flu. These tips are not exactly groundbreaking, but good to keep in mind:
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often, especially after being out in public.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your arm, not your hand.
  • Stay away from obviously sick people.
  • Stay home if you are sick.

Many people cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze, but that is something to protect others but to protect ourselves we must protect our eyes and our noses.YOU dont know who has just sneezed a moment ago and the virus can be suspended in the air in droplets of saliva waiting to be aspired or just falling into your eyes and from thre that is just another history.
