Shaft in Central Park

Wednesday August 19, 2009

shaft movie roundtree

Who's the black private dick that's a sex machine with all the chicks? SHAFT! Ya damn right and you can see the original Shaft starring Richard Roundtree in Central Park tonight.

The 1971 film was shot on location in New York City and features stylish 1970s views of Harlem, Times Square, and MacDougal Street. The unforgettable theme song by Isaac Hayes won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Tonight's screening of Shaft is part of the 2009 Central Park Film Festival, which celebrates movie making in Central Park. The first film shot in Central Park was Romeo & Juliet (1908). Since then, 250 films have used the Park as a backdrop.

Later this week, the Central Park Film Festival will screen Ocean's 11, Twilight and a surprised viewer's choice selection on August 22nd.
