'Tis the weekend before Halloween and New Yorkers are starting the celebration early. Also this weekend: CMJ Music Marathon, Art in Odd Places, and more.
- Halloween in Central Park -- Halloween starts early in Central Park. Carve pumpkins on Friday, enjoy crafts and live entertainment at Saturday's Pumpkin Festival, and then dress up for Sunday's costume parade and Pumpkin Sail.
- CMJ Music Festival --You still have time to see some great shows during the annual CMJ Music Marathon, which runs through Saturday, October 24.
- Art in Odd Places -- Discover great art on 14th Street during this free annual festival.
- Haunted Houses -- Get in the Halloween mood with a visit to one of New York's most terrifying and disgusting haunted houses. One of the scariest, Nightmare: Vampires is hosting a special kid's version this Saturday from 10AM-3PM. A kid-friendly Count Dracula will lead a tour and provide balloons and candy for all. Admission is $15 for Kids' Day.
- Dog Halloween Parade --The annual Dog Halloween Parade in Central Park is one of my favorite Halloween events. Come out on Sunday to party with the pups and see some truly unique (and adorable) costumes. Thinking of dressing up your dog? Follow these guidelines from the ASPCA to avoid causing canine discomfort.
- Halloween at the Merchant's House Museum -- Hear ghost stories and take a candlelit ghost tour of this haunted 1832 mansion, the site of nine deaths and eight funerals over the years. Tours run on Friday and Saturday evenings (and again next weekend).
