Weekend Picks — Dance, Derby, and Lost Finale Parties

By , About.com GuideMay 21, 2010

  • New York Street Fairs --Check out our guide to the 22 street fairs and festivals in Manhattan this weekend.

  • New York City Dance Parade 2010 -- Shake your moneymaker down old Broadway on Saturday afternoon. The Dance Parade will start at 1pm, hoof it to Tompkins Square Park and then transform into DanceFest, a four-hour free festival with dance performances, dance lessons, and a DJ party. So far, more than 6,500 dancers have registered.
  • Hudson River Pageant -- Saturday's Hudson River Pageant is an ecological art festival in support of restoring the Hudson River and addressing climate change in New York City. Head to the river (from Vesey Street to Horatio Street) for a parade of giant river creature puppets, a chanting concert, dancing grass mounds, a live fish release, a garden planting ceremony, and more.
  • Gotham Girls Roller Derby -- See the vicious women of Manhattan Mayhem (featuring Angela Slamsbury and Tip-Her Gore) take on the Queens of Pain (featuring Anais Ninja and Pippi Strongsocking) at Hunter College on Saturday night.
  • The Lost Finale -- As an unabashed Lost geek, I will be glued to the TV on Sunday night for the series finale and whatever clip shows precede it. If you prefer to say farewell to Lost with other geeks in Dharma jumpsuits and a well-stocked bar, check out the Lost finale parties at 92Y TribecaSouthern Hospitality, Fontana's, or Professor Thom's.
