Occupy Wall Street

wall street bull sculptureAbout 28 people were arrested last night during the Occupy Wall Street movement's march through Lower Manhattan.

I was on my way to present at a small business workshop downtown and ended up sharing a car on the E train with some amped-up New Yorkers on their way to join the protest. They were loudly declaring their blue collar pride and trying to rally other commuters to join them.

Community groups, labor unions, and college students marched last night with the Occupy Wall Street activists, who have been occupying Zuccotti Park near Wall Street since September 17th in protest of "the greed and corruption of the 1%" of the nation's wealthiest.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and other politicians were in attendance to hear the protesters' demands.

According to organizers, the Occupy Wall Street movement isn't about a single set of demands. The goal is to make the voice of "the other 99%" heard. Marchers expressed outrage about the lack of support for the middle class in the U.S. and the influence of corporate money.

While protesters have been occupying Zuccotti Park since September 17th, they really made headlines last Saturday when more than 700 marchers were arrested during a march across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Here's more information on the protest and what the Occupy Wall Street activists are fighting for:

What's your take on the Occupy Wall Street movement?
