Weekend Picks — Open House New York, Occupy Wall Street, and More

By , About.com GuideOctober 15, 2011

  • Open House New York -- Get a free inside look at some of New York's most significant architectural and design sites during Open House New York weekend. Enjoy rare opportunities to tour New York landmarks and hear presentations from top architects. Just be prepared to wait in line at the most popular stops. It's usually worth it.
  • Occupy Wall Street Day of Action -- After winning the battle to stay in Zuccotti Park, the Occupy Wall Street movement has declared a Day of Action for Saturday, October 15th. In New York City, actions include a March on the Banks at Chase headquarters at 11AM, a student assembly in Washington Square Park at 12pm, an environmental action at the main branch of the New York Public Library, and a Take Times Square occupation starting at 5PM. Whether you plan to join the movement or avoid the gridlock, it's good to know where the crowds will be gathering.
  • Avon Walk for Breast Cancer -- Walk to raise money to fight breast cancer or wear your pink with pride and cheer on the walkers at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this weekend.
  • New York Street Fairs -- It's still street fair season in New York City, but not for much longer. Enjoy the fall weather at several street fairs and festivals around New York this weekend.
