
December 1st is World AIDS Day, a day designated by the United Nations for raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic.
The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS has estimated that there are approximately 33 million people living with HIV worldwide. Since the AIDS epidemic emerged in the early 1980s, it has claimed more than 25 million lives.
