Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree

The annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is the unofficial start of the holiday season in New York. Yeah, we know that SOME people have been piping Christmas tunes and displaying wreaths since Halloween, but when Rockefeller Center lights up, you know it's really time to start making merry.

The 2012 Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 and be broadcast live on NBC.

FYI, the Rockefeller Center tree lighting is also an official NYC Gridlock Alert Day so if you've got somewhere else to be on Wednesday night, plan to take public transportation and stay away from midtown.

Then again, you can also skip the mob scene tonight and see the beauty of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree any evening during the holiday season.
