Ghostly Tales and Tours at the Merchant House
The old Merchant's House in the Village was built in 1832 and has been the site of nine deaths and eight family funerals. Take a spooky candlelit tour of the old mansion or storyteller Anthony Bellov on Halloween night to hear spine-tingling tales of the spirits rumored to walk the halls.

When: Candlelight ghost tours take place October 24, 25, 29, 27, and 30. Tours begin every 30 minutes from 6-10pm. Spine-Tingling & True: Ghost Stories of the Merchant's House Museum will be told on October 31st at 7PM and 9PM.

Webster Hall throws the official Village Halloween Parade after-party every year. Compete with the rest of New York's freaks for a $500 costume prize and dance the night away. Doors open at 8PM and the party goes all night. Admission starts at $25 per person and goes up to $150 for VIP table service.

Visit the magnificent Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine for an evening of thrills and chills. Enjoy a screening of The Phantom of the Opera, accompanied by the ominous sounds of the cathedral organ. The film is followed by the famous Grand Procession of the Ghouls, a dramatic parade of fabulous puppets, creatures and special effects.

The National Comedy Theatre's Halloween Spooktacular is a Halloween improv comedy show described by producers as âsort of a combination of Friday the 13th meets Whose Line is it Anyway?. Every year, the show features Halloween-themed subjects, spooky games and an ending that is promised to be "so bizarre that it will be discussed until Thanksgiving."
The National Comedy Theatres Halloween Spooktacular
Where: National Comedy Theatre, 347 West 36th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues.
When: Friday, October 31st and Saturday, November 1st, 2008. Shows at 7:30 pm and 9:45 pm.

Your dog can win you an iPod. On Saturday, October 25th, hundreds of costumed canines and thousand of spectators will march on Tompkins Square Park to participate in the country's largest Halloween parade for dogs. This year, the pooches will be competing for over $5,000 in prizes (categories include Best in Show, Best Owner & Dog Costume, and Best Trick) and the first 100 pups to arrive will get free gift baskets. All proceeds go to the NYC Parks Department for the renovation of First Run, the city's oldest dog run. See the photos of dogs in Halloween costumes on parade.

When: Sunday, October 26th, 2008 from Noon to 3:00 pm (due to the likelihood of rain, the parade was rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday)
Where: First Run is located inside NYC's Tompkins Square Park near the entrance at 9th St. and Ave. A. Take the L to 1st Ave.
Admission: Price of admission is a $5 raffle ticket.
