March in the 2012 Village Halloween Parade

Be Part of New York City's Most Famous Halloween Party

March in the 2012 Village Halloween Parade
Important Announcement: Thanks to Hurricane Sandy, the 2012 Village Halloween Parade has been canceled. This is the first time that the famous parade has been canceled in its 39-year history.

March in the 2012 Village Halloween Parade

The parade will march from Spring Street to 16th Street along 6th Avenue, starting at 7PM on October 31st.

Remember that there will be subway service changes on Halloween weekend and plan your trip accordingly.

For Participants: Line-up for participants begins on 6th Avenue south of Spring Street and north of Canal Street at 6:30PM. Note: You can ONLY enter the line-up on 6th Avenue from the East and South between Canal and Spring Streets.

It can take anywhere from two to four hours to enter the parade route, so the staging area becomes its own party. If you don't have a costume, you can volunteer to carry a puppet in the parade.

For Spectators: You'll have to get there early if you want a good view. Hours before the event, onlookers start to line the sidewalks behind police barricades. Some eager spectators climb up on trees, fences, and phone booths for a better view (at least until the NYPD officers shoo them down).

Tips for Enjoying the Village Halloween Parade

The streets intersecting the route are closed off at 5PM. After 5PM, those wishing to enter the parade will be directed by police to Spring Street.

At the Village Halloween Parade, it's often hard to know who's a participant and who's a spectator. Many spectators come in costume and many of the marchers play to the crowd by throwing candy, posing for photos, and interacting with their public.

The Parade usually lasts from 7PM to 10:30PM. It will be telecast live on NY1 for those who prefer to avoid the crowds and the craziness. And when the parade is over, Halloween night has just begun. Most revelers head to parties at area bars, clubs and restaurants.

Getting There

Take the 1, 2, and 3 lines to 14th St. and 7th Ave.

Take the A, B, C, D, E, F and Q lines to West 4th St. and 6th Ave.
