Presented by the Little Italy Merchants Association, the festival has attracted more than a million visitors every summer since it began in 2002.
Most of the areas more than 35 restaurants will operate sidewalk cafes during festival hours so you can stop for a leisurely meal, cappuccino, or hand-made cannoli al fresco.
Summer in Little Italy Festival
When: The Summer in Little Italy Festival will run every weekend through Labor Day. The hours are Fridays from 6 PM to 11 PM, Saturdays from 11 AM to 11 PM, and Sundays from 11 AM to 10 PM.Where: The festival will take place along Mulberry Street between Canal and Broome Streets and on Hester Street between Mott and Mulberry Streets. During these weekend hours, Mulberry Street will be closed to vehicular traffic.
Special Events:
- Saturday, July 5, 4PM: The 6th Annual Little Italy Pasta Eating Competition take place in front of Sal Anthonys S.P.Q.R. Restaurant at 133 Mulberry Street (between Hester and Grand Streets). Watch Little Italys biggest eaters consume pounds of freshly prepared pasta as they vie for the title, the trophy, and a $250 cash prize. Will someone break the 2006 record set by Victor Hugo Quintuna, who devoured 4 1/4 pounds of cooked pasta in eight minutes?
- Additional Special Events: Summer in Little Italy will feature additional exciting free events during the summer including vocal competitions for tenors and sopranos, cookbook signings and food lectures, a pizza tossing and cooking event, a childrens festival on Labor Day Weekend and more.
