Biography of Contributing Writer Margot Tohn

By , About.com Guide

Margot Tohn is the Founder and Owner of Park It! Guides, the place to go when you need to know about parking and driving in major cities.

Margot founded Park It! Guides in 2006, after spending more than fifteen years in senior management positions with financial services and publishing companies. Not one to shy away from a challenge, she worked on major start-up projects including Australia’s largest financial services mergers and the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games sponsorship programs.

Park It! has published three annual editions of Park It! NYC: Complete Guide to NYC Parking Garages along with reference maps and guides for NYC drivers and parkers. The idea for the book came out of pure frustration one Sunday afternoon when Margot and her family nearly missed their matinee because a NYC parking garage was full. Seeing the need for a handy guidebook to hassle-free parking in Manhattan, Margot set her sites on making it happen.

In late 2009, Park It! launched a program to help people find NYC monthly parking from more than 600 garages in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, NJ, Westchester and CT.

Margot and Park It! NYC have been featured by the New York Times, Entrepreneur Magazine, CNN, MSN Money, Crain’s NY Business, NPR, Newsday, The Daily News, AAA Car & Travel, WCBS880 and 1010 WINS radio, and most Metro-NY area television stations.

A graduate of Cornell University (BA in Linguistics) and the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of New South Wales (MBA in Marketing and Strategy), Margot has traveled extensively in the Asia-Pacific region, made her own wine, worked on a cattle station in Australia, and sailed on a 72 ft ocean-racing yacht from the UK to France. A true New Yorker, she lived in Australia and San Francisco and has come back home to NYC.
