Billed as "the first ever documented FTM competition in NY and possibly the world," Mr. Transman turns the traditional world of beauty pageantry on its head, with female-to-male competitors duking it out for the new but already coveted title. The reigning Mr. Transman, Hawaiian-born slam poet Kit Yan, was featured on the HBO documentary Asians Aloud. On Sunday, September 18, 2011, Yan will turn over his title to the new king at the second annual Mr. Transman, to be held at the Knitting Factory Brooklyn.
Mr. Transman contestants compete in five categories (platform, swimsuit, interview, talent, and evening wear), and are judged by a panel of illustrious queer personalities (which for 2011 includes Paris is Burning producer/director Jennie Livingston and burlesque legend the World Famous "Bob"). NYC drag king icon Murray Hill will host the evening's festivities, which will feature performances by Schmekel, Princess Tiny & The Meats, DJ Sirlinda, and Mr. Transman 2010 Kit Yan.
Your Mr. Transman for 2011 will be chosen from among these hunky gents: Sebastian "Jus" Flowers, Topher Gross, A.R. Punk, Enoch Reise, and Victor Glazer. Among the bounty lavished upon the winner will be a cash prize, a photo spread in Original Plumbing magazine (the Cosmopolitan of FTM trans culture), Trannywood porn DVDs, and an Old Spice Men's Kit.
