Get out and compete for bragging rights in the Battle for Manhattan, an athletic competition between the East Side and West Side of New York City.
Competitors will face off in a 5K race and a series of soccer, basketball, and volleyball games at venues around the city from March 30th through April 8th, 2008.
Join teams led by champion athletes to show why your side of the island is better than the other. The captain of the West Side team is former Knicks shooting guard John Starks. The East Side captain is Kevin Young, the world record holder for the 400 meter hurdles. Other celebrity participants will include soccer Hall-of-Famer Eric Wynalda, beach volleyball Olympic gold medalist Dain Blanton, and legendary AND1 streetballer Troy "Escalade" Jackson.
To register, participants must either live or work in New York City and team selection will be based on age and skill level. Proceeds of the registration fees will go to Urban Dove, an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of New York City's at-risk youth.
