It was a beautiful day for a marathon. More than 40,000 runners completed the 26.2-mile course that starts in Staten Island and travels through all five boroughs before its triumphant finish in Central Park. Paula Radcliffe of Great Britain became the second woman ever to win the New York City Marathon three times (her time was 2:23:55). Marilson Gomes dos Santos of Brazil was the top male finisher with a time of 2:08:43. Both will be taking $130,000 home from their trip to New York City.
See photos of the top finishers and all of the other amazing athletes that completed the 2008 ING New York City Marathon. We caught the runners as they entered Manhattan from the 59th Street Bridge and then hustled across town to meet them as they raced through Miles 25 and 26 to the finish line in Central Park.
