  • Ghostly Tales and Tours at the Merchant House

    The old Merchant's House in the Village was built in 1832 and has been the site of nine deaths and eight family funerals. Take a spooky candlelit tour of the old mansion or storyteller Anthony Bellov on Halloween night to hear spine-tingling tales of the spirits rumored to walk the halls.

    Where: Merchant's House Museum, 29 East 4th Street between Lafayette and the Bowery
    When: Candlelight ghost tours take place October 23, 24, 29, & 30. The 45-minute tours run every half hour between 6 and 10 p.m. On October 31, take the kids on a family-friendly ghost tour (complete with goodies) or hear Spine-Tingling & True: Ghost Stories of the Merchant's House Museum.
    Directions: Take the N,R to 8th St., the 6 to Astor Place, or the F,B to Broadway/Lafayette
    Admission: Tours are $25, $13 for members. Reservations are required. The family-friendly ghost tours are $10 per person (adults and kids). The storytelling event on Halloween night is $25, $15 for members. Contact 212-777-1089 for more information.


  • Ralph Lee's Halloween Extravaganza & Procession of the Ghouls

    Visit the magnificent Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine for an evening of thrills and chills. Enjoy a screening of the classic 1922 horror film Nosferatu, accompanied by the ominous sounds of the magnificent cathedral organ. The film is followed by the famous Grand Procession of the Ghouls, a dramatic parade of fabulous puppets, creatures and special effects.

    When: Friday, October 30th, 2009 at 7PM and 10PM
    Where: Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, 112th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, one block east of Broadway.
    Getting There: 1 or 9 train to 110th Street/Cathedral Parkway. M4, M104 bus to Broadway and 112th Street or M11 to Amsterdam Avenue and 112th Street.
    Tickets: $20

  • Halloween at the American Museum of Natural History

    Wander among "dangerous" dinosaurs, "eerie" elephants, and the unearthly universe when more than 30 of the Museum's halls open for trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving, arts-and-crafts, fun with roaming cartoon characters, and live performances by David Grover and the Big Bear Band.

    When: Saturday, October 31st from 2-5PM
    Where: American Museum of Natural History, 79th Street and Central Park West
    Getting There: Take the B (weekdays only) or C to 81st Street or the M79 to W. 81st Street
    Tickets: $10, $9 for Museum members


  • Halloween Spooktacular at the Intrepid

    The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is hosting a family Halloween “Spooktacular” on Saturday, October 31st & Sunday, November 1st. Take a trip through a haunted house, paint a pumpkin in the pumpkin patch, watch a magic show, listen to scary stories and more. Stilt walkers and interactive scarecrows will greet guests throughout the Museum, face painting will be available from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM and magic shows will take place at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM on both days. All Halloween activities are free with the price of admission to the Museum.


  • Halloween Party at the Children's Museum of Manhattan

    On Friday, October 30, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan will be open from 5-8pm for their special After Hours Halloween Party. On Halloween Day, kids can build theer own haunted haouses, paint pumpkins, and craft Halloween bat puppets during the Healthy and Spooky Halloween Festival.


  • The Nation's Largest Dog Halloween Parade

    See photos of the 2009 Tompkins Square Park Dog Halloween Parade. Your dog can win you an iPod this Halloween. On Saturday, October 24th, hundreds of costumed canines and thousand of spectators will march on Tompkins Square Park to participate in the country's largest Halloween parade for dogs. In 2009, the pooches will be competing for thousands of dollars in prizes (categories include Best in Show, Best Owner & Dog Costume, and Best Trick).

    Tompkins Square Park Dog Halloween Parade
    When: Sunday, October 25th, 2009 from Noon to 3:00 pm (rescheduled from Saturday due to expected rain))
    Where: First Run is located inside NYC's Tompkins Square Park near the entrance at 9th St. and Ave. A. Take the L to 1st Ave.
    Admission: Price of admission is a $5 raffle ticket.
