Nine Democrats are competing to replace C. Virginia Fields as Manhattan Borough President in 2005. The candidates include representatives from Manhattan neighborhoods from downtown to Washington Heights. The winner of the primary in September will face four candidates from other parties in November.The Issues
Most of the candidates cite the rising cost of living in Manhattan as the key issue facing borough residents. All say that, if elected, they will work hard to provide affordable housing for middle-income families in Manhattan.Other key issues include security, education, the environment, and AIDS prevention.
