Holiday Drag Shows in New York City

Gotham's Finest Gals (and a Guy) Spread a Whole Lot of Christmas Cheer

By

Mimi Imfurst Holiday Drag

As the Yuletide nears in New York City, it brings with it several inevitable shiny traditions: gorgeously appointed shop windows, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, and a raucous array of over the top 'tis-the-season-themed drag shows. Many of the city's favorite queens (and a king) will return to the holiday stage in 2010, presenting their colorfully off-color takes on Christmas spirit.

(For a taste of the type of chestnut-roasting cheer you're in for at these shows, check out Jackie Beat's Santa's Baby and Sherry Vine & Greg Scarnici's Baby, Just Stick It Inside.)

Justin Bond: Christmas Spells

Justin Bond (formerly Kiki of Kiki and Herb) returns to the Abrons Arts Center for the most highbrow show of the bunch -- if you can call a show in which Huckleberry Finn works as a brothel tranny on Christmas Eve highbrow. Adapted from a short story by Kate Bornstein, Christmas Spells showcases Bond's immeasurable talents as both performer and cultural commentator, and also features the infamous Pixie Harlots.

When:  Thursday, December 9 to Saturday, December 18, 2010, 8 p.m.

Where:  Abrons Arts Center, 466 Grand Street at Pitt Street

Tickets:  $25 ($29.25 with convenience fee); students $15 ($18 with convenience fee)

Where:  Laurie Beechman Theater, inside the West Bank Cafe, 407 West 42nd Street at Ninth Avenue

Jackie Beat’s All-You-Can-Eat Christmas!
