Guide Review - Colors Restaurant Review
In early January 2006, former employees and staff members of the World Trade Center’s famous Windows on the World restaurant opened Colors, Manhattan’s first cooperatively owned and operated restaurant. Since then, staff members have made a strong and consolidated effort to perfect those components essential to a successful restaurant: attentive and kind service, a warm atmosphere, and exceptionally delicious cuisine.[p/]
The diverse menu celebrates the convergence of tastes and nations by offering a wide selection of dishes from all regions of the world. Relax and let the personable servers recommend their favorite tapas, such as the Pam Thai, Potato Samosa, or plate of thin-sliced Italian prosciutto with melon, small chunks of parmesan cheese and juicy figs.
Entrees are fashionably arranged and arrive in manageable portions. The fish options, including the pan-seared Mahi Mahi and Salmon Bento Box, are delicately flavored, yet filling. Other attractive entrée options include the classic New York Strip Steak as well as the Curried Goat lentil rice cake.
For dessert, the Molten Chocolate Cake is a winner. Even though I was half expecting a small pool of chocolate to ooze from the center, the cake still proved to be moist, rich and delightfully offset by a small scoop of vanilla ice cream and sliced fruit.
While we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, I did wonder why the restaurant was practically empty on a Thursday night. Nonetheless, the food was spectacular, and the same grace, pride and cordiality found at the former Windows on the World shines through at Colors.
