Guide Review - Nobu's Still Got It

Nobu New York has been a top Manhattan restaurant since it opened in 1994. Reservations are still hard to get. The main attraction is the food. Chef Nobu Matsuhisa's menu is innovative and unique. Specialties like Black Cod with Miso and Lobster with Wasabi Pepper Sauce have earned Nobu a devoted following and rave reviews. Nobu earned three stars from the New York Times and was voted Top Japanese Cuisine in the 2004 NYC Zagat Survey.

And to add a little celebrity cahet, Nobu is owned by actor Robert DeNiro, NYC restaurant kingpin Drew Nieporent, and their partners.

Eating at Nobu is an experience. The decor is inspired by the Japanese countryside -- with natural textures, birch trees and a stone wall. Every dish I sampled was fantastic -- with the black cod in miso the definite stand-out.

Prices are steep, but Nobu is worth it. Save it for a special occasion if you're not rolling in dough. But book well in advance -- reservations are hard to come by.

For those who don't want to fight for reservations, Next Door Nobu offers a great alternative. With a similar menu and a no-reservations policy, Next Door Nobu also delivers a great dining experience.
