The Bottom Line

One if By Land, Two if By Sea has won the title of "Most Romantic Restaurant in New York" from Citysearch and many other critics. It's a great spot for a special occasion dinner with the one you love. You'll dine accompanied by the roar of the fireplace and the tinkle of the baby grand piano. It may seem a little stuffy to the younger set, but it's hard to complain in the glow of the firelight.

Guide Review - One if By Land, Two if By Sea

If your significant other has been complaining that the romance is gone, it's time to book a table at One if By Land, Two if By Sea. This restaurant is one of the best in New York City for fairy-tale romance just like in the movies.

The restaurant is tucked away in an historic 18th-century carriage house in the West Village. Inside, you'll find candlelight, roaring fireplaces, and a baby grand piano. You'll feel just like Prince Charming and Cinderella.

The decadent menu is all about rich and indulgent foods. Sample foie gras, fillet mignon, and a chocolate souffle. The $69 prix-fixe menu and the $85 tasting menu let you sample the chef's most famous dishes.

Lovely bar setting by glow of fireplace. Meal a dissapointment. Appetizers arrived virtually 45 mins after placing our order even though restaurant was only 60% full. Wait staff seemed indifferent and we had to ask for more bread rather than have it offerred only to also find out that our waiter "" decided"" which breads to offer and limited our choice to two types of bread. The bread itself is excellent. Main course was pretty so so , almost pedestrian given the setting. Our waiter boorishly opined that all tips would be shared by the wait staff so ""all that cash would be split"". The price fixe of $75.00 seemed reasonable but all in all a let down. Could not recommend this restaurant except for drinks at the bar.
