Guide Review - Yaffa's in Tribeca

With its neighborhood feel and funky decor, Yaffa's offers a laid-back, affordable option in trendy Tribeca. Yaffa's has a varied menu for lunch and dinner, but they're famous for their couscous (Thursday is couscous night).

At lunch, you have a wide choice of sandwiches, salads and entrees (including several vegetarian options) -- all named after celebrities. Try Charlie Chaplin (black bean soup) and Cher (house salad) for a light lunch, or splurge on Sidney Poitier (pepper-crusted tuna with crispy, jasmine rice cake. At dinner, Yaffa's also offers a tapas menu.

Stop by for Cous Cous Night on Thursdays and sample Yaffa's famous cous cous (five varieties including the Cous Cous Royale with meat, chicken and lamb).

Yaffa's also serves high tea (call 24 hours in advance for reservations), featuring 20 kinds of tea and a full menu of cucumber sandwiches, scones, and the like.

Service can sometimes be slow -- if you're in a rush, try someplace else. And Yaffa's is definitely more laid-back than posh -- don't bring your uptight boss or your trendoid friend. But stop by if you want good food in a casual, funky atmosphere in the heart of Tribeca.
