The September 11 Memorial, located on the former World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan, will be dedicated on September 11, 2011 and open to the public as of September 12, 2011.

The September 11 Memorial features two waterfalls and two one-acre reflecting pools set within the footprints of the twin towers. Bronze panels around the reflecting pools display the names of the almost 3,000 people who died in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 28, 1993.

Visitor passes for the September 11 Memorial are free but must be reserved in advance online.

The entrance to the September 11 Memorial is located at the northeast corner of Albany and Greenwich Streets. The site is easily accessibly via public transportation. Take the R or 1 to Rector Street, the E to World Trade Center, or the A,C,J,M,Z,2,3,4, or 5 to Fulton Street. Get a map of the September 11 Memorial location.

The hours of operation for the September 11 Memorial are:
  • From September 12, 2011 through January 8, 2012 -- Weekdays, 10AM-8PM; Weekends and holidays, 9AM-8PM
  • From January 9, 2012 through March 10, 2012 -- Monday through Sunday, 10AM-6PM
  • From March 11, 2012 through June 15, 2012 -- Monday through Sunday, 10AM-9PM

September 11 Memorial Museum

The September 11 Memorial Museum will also be located on the former site of the World Trade Center and will open in September 2012.

The Museum's design features a ramp leading into the foundations of the original World Trade Center. Visitors will be able to stand between the locations of the original Twin Towers, pass the "Survivor Stairs" used by hundreds to escape on 9/11, and descend to the West Chamber. The 9/11 Memorial Preview Site

The Preview Site at 20 Vesey Street will remain open to provide visitors with information about the September 11 Memorial, the September 11 Memorial Museum and the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site. A kiosk at the Preview Site will also allow visitors to reserve passes to visit the September 11 Memorial Plaza. The space will also exhibit pieces from the September 11 Memorial Museum’s permanent collection and a recording room where visitors can share their own September 11 stories.
