The posters that herald the Black Party are lessons in shock and awe. Images and text sometimes confound, more frequently titillate, and always provoke. “That’s not the prototype for most gay party posters,” says Black Party producer Stephen Pevner. In fact, you could say that these posters keep company with artwork, considering the visceral responses and intellectual gymnastics they call up.
Pevner enthusiastically likens the Black Party’s posters to “pieces of art,” and says, “Their intention is not to appeal to everybody.” He adds that The Saint at Large has taken on the job of conceptualizing, casting, and producing images.
